What is SEO Powersuite?

SEO Powersuite is four different tools in one enterprise. You can buy each tool individually or buy them all together in an tool bundle.

The most significant thing about SEO Powersuite is that it is a client side SEO tool. That means that you have to download the SEO Powersuite program, install it and run it off your personal computer. This have a huge impact on how you work with the tool and how well it’s working for larger teams and agencies - i’ll get back to that.

The four different SEO tools in the SEO Powersuite covers the following parts of SEO: Link prospecting, Link auditing, Onsite auditing, and Keyword Research.

SEO Powersuite: Ranktracker

Rank Tracker is for me the flagship of SEO Powersuite. I have been using the tool since 2009 for most keyword research done. It is in constant development and has overcome some really great improvements.

Rank Tracker helps you not only to harvest keywords, but also to gather and structure data on keywords in a great way. For the keyword research part there is no other SEO tool that does a better job. If you work with keyword research and want to develop and expand to the next level, SEO Powersuite’s Rank tracker is the tool to use.

On the continuous rank tracking part, the fact that Rank Tracker is a client side program is a shortcoming. You’ll have to open up the program regularly and run tracking if you want continuous data on how rankings are developing. This is not something that makes sense and you will lose a lot of time on fixing how it collects ranks. Here cloud based rank trackers are much more efficient.

SEO Powersuite: LinkAssistant

LinkAssistant is a tool for link prospecting and outreach. It’s an effective linkbuilding tool if you are working more systematically with linkbuilding to a lot of different websites. LinkAssistant basically has three different functions: 1) Finding the right links that you want to attract, 2) Reaching out to them and manage the dialogue with webmaster, 3) Keep track of the links obtained.

SEO Powersuite: SEO Spyglass

As part of the SEO Powersuite, SEO SpyGlass is the link audit and backlink checking tool of the suite. There are a couple of interesting features in SEO Spyglass.

The tool let you get an overview of the inbound links to your website by finding them via the SEO Powersuite Link Explorer, Google Analytics and Search Console. Compared to their backlink checkers this is not very efficient and you won’t cover all links, unless you import links from other tools manually into SEO Powersuite if you prefer that.

One of the things the SEO SpyGlass does decently is the Anti-Åenguin link audit and cleanup feature, where it is on of the cheapest alternatives on the market to perform link cleanups. Here again, you can upload more comprehensive lists of links from other tools and let SEO Spyglass perform an audit for you so that you can more easily do the disavow file.

Also SEO SpyGlass let you do manual link checks to see if your links are still live to make sure none of your links is being removed.

SEO Powersuite: Website Auditor

Website Auditor is the SEO Powersuite onsite audit tool that let you do a full scale crawl of your website extracting most parameters you would want. Compared to other more advanced and deep crawling tools Website Auditor is far from perfect. You don’t have as many possibilities to extract the data you want except for most basic and elementary onsite factors.

As mentioned, the crawler is pretty basic compared to other crawling and onsite audit tools. What's special about Website Auditor is its ability to get focused keywords and give an onsite score on that particular page in terms of how well it’s optimized. This makes it very easy to find potential of onsite optimization throughout the website if you map up urls with keywords.

Also, what is special about SEO Powersuite Website Auditor is the visualization feature, where you can create crawl maps of up to +3000 k pages of the website. In a basic, but still brilliant way, that can be seen very few places. One of the most powerful visualizations is controlling node size depending on internal link authority or organic traffic. This enable you to find opportunities to let link authority float differently throughout the website. This is great and is maybe reason enough in itself to purchase SEO Powersuite including Website Auditor.

SEO Powersuite Review

Price review

9/10

One of the best things about SEO Powersuite is the price. It’s reasonably priced compared to other SEO tools (unless you have to buy for a whole team of SEO Specialists in you SEO Agency).

You can choose to by the whole professional tool for 299$ on the following price model. Basically, the enterprise solution help you have more projects and do white labelling exports (click the image to review more about what you get):

You can also choose to only invest in individual tools for about 125$. When you buy individual tools you’ll only get access to i.e. Rank Tracker and LinkAssistant and thus don’t get to use the other tools. This is useful when you only need one of them do perform the wanted audits.

Overall SEO Powersuite is priced very fair and is one of the tools, where you get most value for money.

Data review

7/10

SEO Powersuite doesn’t have any data by itself. It does not crawl the internet for backlinks and thus rely on other tools to import data. No rankings are saved and shared across accounts, so there you can’t look up rankings unless you crawl Google with Rank Tracker. The same goes for SEO SpyGlass, where you have to import links and data from other tools like Google for instance.

When Data in SEO Powersuite still scores 7 out of 10 it is due to SEO Powersuite’s ability to work and model with Data, as well as exporting the data to your own sheets where visualisations can be done. Without being perfect there are in all the SEO Powersuite tools great ways to add tags and customize your crawls, keyword researches and links which makes the tool a lot more flexible to work in when doing your analysis across SEO.

Yet still the data is trumped by other tools in every category. SEO Powersuite’s Website Auditor as an example is far from having all the datapoint you could wish for when performing a technical audit of onsite parameters. Here other tools are often better in terms of amounts of data.

Depth review

7/10

One of the biggest problems with SEO Powersuite is that it runs client side which make handling large datasets very difficult. Handling large websites or large sets of keywords quickly uses most of your computer bandwidth and make the program crash. This makes a difference in how deep you can go with your research whether it is link research, prospecting, technical audit and keyword research.

When that is said the depth really just depends on your imagination. SEO Powersuite have created a tool where you have a large degree of freedom as of how you use the tool for SEO and the flexibility it provides enables you to make very deep analysis across the board.

Still when comparing with other more state of the art tools, SEO Powersuite has it shortcomings hence the score.

User Friendliness

5/10

SEO Powersuite is not out of the box for complete beginners. It takes some experience and knowledge of SEO and of SEO tools to understand settings and possibilities with the SEO Powersuite tools.

In Rank Tracker you have to purchase proxies and understand how you can scrape Google results without being banned from Google for making too many searches. This is a bit complex and you must make the right setting to avoid this, which i not user friendly at all. In other ranking tools this is not something you should worry about.

Agency Friendliness

6/10

If you are an agency SEO Powersuite might not be the best choice. There are several things you have to consider before investing in SEO Powersuite.

First of all, the user friendliness of SEO Powersuite is good but the tools are complex. You should often know about SEO before being able to set up the different tools. This can be complicated for Junior SEO staff and they will need assistance and guidance.

There are a lot of settings in all the tools that can be done wrongly - especially in Rank Tracker people should know a lot about how Google is actually working. If they don’t they will waste time collecting wrong competitor data, trying to fix proxies and getting access to the right data points. In other cloud based SEO tools this simply feels more smooth.

Second of all, you will have to buy individual licenses as the tool works client side and thus have to be installed on each individual computer and be run from here. This also makes it more difficult to work on the same projects as SEO specialist, because files can only be opened once which gives problems on versions.

On thing you can consider is to run the program on a server, where the whole team have access. This however still only allows one at a time to work on projects in SEO Powersuite, unless you invest in several servers and let the SEO Specialist swap around with those.

You also have to invest in great proxies especially when working with Rank Tracker as wrong setting can ban the whole IP address from Google if it’s not set up properly. Mistakes can happen and I have tried, more than once, that even specialists lock out whole companies from Google for hours. Suddenly, the agency get to know what the SEO part is doing 🙂 Not something I recommend for getting focus though. And this is actually one of the reasons why I often recommend to install SEO Powersuite on servers so that wrong setting will never lock other people out from Google search, as the searches are done from a completely different IP.

When I still recommend SEO Powersuite to agencies and especially Rank Tracker, it is due to the fact that you simply don’t get features likewise anywhere else.

In a nutshell: Why you should invest in SEO Powersuite

SEO Powersuite is a great cover-it-all-tool that I believe all SEO Professionals should have in their toolkit. Often it cannot stand alone as the only tool and often it needs to be supported by other third party tools, especially when delving deeper into SEO.

If you are new to SEO and work with SEO on your own, SEO Powersuite is a great tool and you can get great value for your money, but you need to invest some time in learning the tool. Especially, with Rank Tracker and Website Auditor you should buy the whole suite.

If you have years of SEO experience and consult others SEO Powersuite is a solution that could work, but it’s possible for you to find best of breed solutions that beats SEO Powersuite. The only tool you should invest in is Rank Tracker, which is an absolutely must for Keyword Research.

If you are an agency you should invest in the whole suite, but make sure SEO Powersuite is installed on a server where the team can log in and use it. SEO Powersuite should not be used for all team members as the one and only SEO tool. Here you should rely on more cloud based tools and then use SEO Powersuite from your server to do Keyword Research in Rank Tracker and technical audits, crawls and visualizations in Website Auditor. SEO Spyglass can be used for link audits and Link Assistant can be used for outreach and prospecting.
